Film:

The Lodger isn’t Hitchcock’s first film, but is the first “Hitchcock “ film. The result, described by Hitchcock scholar Donald Spoto, is “the first time Hitchcock has revealed his psychological attraction to the association between sex and murder, between ecstasy and death.” It would pave the way for his later work, and prove to be the cornerstone upon which his body of work is built. This version of the film will have updated titles and such by Justin Guenther.  A plethora of ominous camera angles and claustrophobic lighting make this a proto noir classic.

Sound:

Paris 1919 is the quasi-collective musical group from producer/experimentalist/culture re-mixer Chris Strouth. The lineup of the group changes with each recording or performance. The current core band consists of Strouth, Drew Miller (bass electronics), Tabatha Predovich (vocalist) and Eric White (percussion). In this production they are joined by Randall Davidson (cello), Hastings3000 (guitar), Jon Hunt (guitar), Joseph Pettini (percussion), Tim Ritter, (bass electronics) and the turnatablist known as TS, with  dub assist by Mr. David Russ.

The music this group makes is hard to put into words, channeling bits of prog, classical, experimental, techno, musique concrete, world, ambient, and death metal.   It can turn from  “Interstellar Overdrive” to “Music for Airports” on a dime, and make stops in Haiti and Brazil along the way. Make no mistake, this is intense music played by an exceptional lineup of musicians.

Tickets are $15 and are available at the Ritz box office or online at www.ritzdolls.com
